To the Point: Youth Tobacco Cessation Highlights



The first of the YTCC Learnings Documents that translates findings in youth tobacco cessation over the last 10 years into more practical information for various audiences is now available. PHS Guideline Recommendations: How to help adolescents quit smoking is a resource sheet for tobacco control program managers on the PHS Guideline 2008 Update youth recommendations.



The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) launched a web site for Not On Tobacco (N-O-T) to ensure that more communities, schools and teenagers learn about the program, which has been credited with helping thousands of young people quit tobacco.



YTCC developed and presented its first-ever course on young adult tobacco cessation entitled, “Strategies for Reducing Tobacco Use among Young Adults” at Summer Institute 2008. The course covered topics such as tobacco patterns, preventing initiation, and strategies for cessation. View presentations.



The August 2007 issue of the American Journal for Public Health is a theme issue on young adult tobacco cessation research.



Youth Tobacco Cessation: A Guide for Making Informed Decisions will help you understand how to approach implementing a tobacco cessation intervention for youth—including assessing your community’s need, developing a plan, choosing an intervention, and monitoring your progress.
